Ira Alexandre put together an extensive report covering the overall justification for the category, including data on WSFS member engagement with games, studies of other game awards, and, most importantly, why games deserve a category of their own as a storytelling medium. While the conversation seems to have moved beyond this point, the report still represents exhaustive research and a starting point for those who are still hesitant about the basic idea.
